PaverVia tunnels consist of precast segments made in ?declared series? pursuant to the law on reinforced concrete no.1086 dated 5/11/1971, with registration made with the higher council of Public Works (reg. no. 43132).
The installation is assembled by opposing the sections so as to form the planned structure, either polycentric or with constant radius. Operations are very fast and in just one day, with just one assembly team, it is possible to assemble up to 30-35 m of tunnel.
Only the first segment need be shored up, while the following ones are stabilized by contrast and staggered by half a module; a special steel pin ensures temporary stability. After the foundation and keystone casting, which make the structure monolithic, the joints between the various segments are sealed. The arch pattern produces mainly axial thrusts which prevail over the flexural ones, thus preventing the formation of cracks.
The use of class 450 concrete, made using controlled aggregates, the controlled water-cement ratio and stringent reinforcement controls, prevent problems associated with degradation.
The perfectly smooth outer surface without any protruding hooks permits the immediate application of the chosen waterproofing.
The intrados of the elements and therefore the internal surface of the tunnel is particularly smooth (this is in fact the surface in contact with the metal formwork) and this makes subsequent cleaning and protective coating operations easier..
